Cresent City, CALast week I spent the entire week CAMPING! It was wonderful to get away and unplug for a bit. For the next three weeks, I will highlight the three campgrounds I vacationed at as well as some of the things to do around those areas. This week, I will show you the KOA in Crescent City, CA. Crescent City is in Northern California and nestled in the Red Wood Forest. The Campground is very family orientated. It has all-you-can eat pancake breakfasts for just under $4, cabins to rent if you are not into sleeping in a tent or don't have an RV, a game room for the kiddos , a dog park... plus a whole lot more. You can check it all out here.
Check out all their "I'm Awesome" awards.
This was our campsite. We already have our eyes on a couple different sites for next year. What I like the best about this place is that the trees are like a jungle gym! My kids found a hollowed out trunk and build a fort complete with fern beds. Redwoods are also known to have a natural bug repellant, so you won't find many pests around this area.
They have all the pillows and blankets up there....
One bummer was that you could not take your dogs on most of the State Forest trails. But again, the KOA had a dog park and lots of it's own trails for walking Fido... and you can take them on the beaches...
My feet relaxing by the river. Lots of beautiful swimming holes that will warm you up. The forest can be a bit chilly.
This picture was taken at "Trees of Mystery" (which is pet-friendly!)
We also stopped at CC's Diner for Ice cream
And if you don't feel up to paying the California sales tax, you can always head 30 miles north to Brookings, OR. They have excellent clam chowder, a flea market, farmers market and thrift stores..
Lunch time, complete with outdoor seating for Fido.
Farmers Market by the port.
All the time unplugged gave me the inspiration to start a contest. Starting today and running until Sept. 8th, Bark City is having a photo contest! Send us via Private Message on Facebook your photo with the subject "Camping With My Dog". We will start a folder with all the submitted photos. The photo with the most likes wins:
A wood print signed by the artist. There will be about 10 of these wood prints at Bark City soon. All different colors/styles. The winner will get to choose their favorite. The rest will be for sale!
